The main purpose of the role of an Instructional and Learning Designer is to lead planning, sourcing, developing and management of all learning material and storyboards. The role will design engaging learning activities in the context of a subject discipline and in collaboration with subject matter experts (SMEs) and other key stakeholders such that teaching and learning interactions support the student learning experience and success. This requires a knowledge of learning science and instructional design theories that are applied to online course development; and reflected in reviews and updates of copy and artefacts within the Learning Management System (LMS), course materials and website.

Proven portfolio of taking courses and degrees online
Experience in storyboarding for online courses
Extensive understanding of learning practices and theories
Knowledge instructional design models for Higher Education
Lesson and curriculum planning skills
Knowledge of course development software (preferably Articulate 360, especially Rise)
Knowledge of online systems
Ability to write copy/instructional text
Copy, fact and accuracy checking skills
 
Drive online projects and support key internal stakeholders
Working on multiple online related projects for online
Work with Subject Matter Experts on delivering course content for online course material
Instructional Design/ Learning Design/ Story Boarding
Apply tested Instructional and Learning Design theories, practice and methods to inform the storyboarding process
Assist with providing exercises and activities that enhance the learning process
Assist in the creation of supporting material
Review and support of the LMS
Proof reading and course testing
Create engaging learning activities and compelling course content that enhances retention and transfer
Apply tested instructional design theories, practice and methods
Identify target audience’s training needs
Assist with providing exercises and activities that enhance the learning process
Assist in the creation of supporting material
Research
Conduct instructional research and analysis on learners and content
Conduct research on online courses
Administration
Check course content is received timeously
